Skills in Demand (Subclass 482)
1. Core Skills Stream
This visa allows Australian employers to sponsor foreign workers to fill skilled positions that cannot be filled by local workers.
Valid for up to 2–4 years (depending on occupation)
Requires a job offer from an approved Australian employer
Occupation must be on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)
English language and skill assessments may be required
2. Specialists Skills Stream
This visa allows Australian employers to sponsor foreign workers to fill skilled positions that cannot be filled by local workers.
Valid for up to 2–4 years (depending on occupation)
Requires a job offer from an approved Australian employer
Occupation must be on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO)
English language and skill assessments may be required
3. Labour Agreement Stream
This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a labour agreement. Labour agreements are developed between the Australian Government and employers.
Valid for up to 2–4 years (depending on the labour agreement)
Requires a job offer from an approved Australian employer
Your employer has to have a labour agreement with the Australian Government in effect.
English language and skill assessments may be required
Pathway to Permanent Residency (PR)
Many work visas offer a direct or indirect pathway to permanent residency. Examples include:
Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme – permanent)
Subclass 191 (Permanent Residence – Regional)
Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme) - sponsorship needed
Transition from Subclass 482 to Subclass 186 after 2–3 years with the same employer
