Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) allows international students who have recently completed their studies in Australia to live, study, and work temporarily in Australia. This visa is a valuable opportunity for graduates to gain practical experience in the Australian workforce, and in many cases, it serves as a pathway to permanent residency.
⚠️ Important: You can apply for this visa only once as a primary applicant.
Streams of the Temporary Graduate Visa
The 485 visa is divided into two main streams:
1. Post-Vocational Education Work Stream
For international students who have:
Completed at least 2 years of study in Australia
A qualification relevant to an occupation on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
A positive skills assessment for the nominated occupation
2. Post-Higher Education Work Stream
For international students who have completed:
A higher education degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD) in Australia
From an institution that offers CRICOS-registered course
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the 485 visa, you must:
Be 35 years of age or under
Hold a valid Australian student visa within the last 6 months
Have met the Australian study requirement (at least 2 academic years)
Meet English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS 6.5 with a minimum score 5.5 for each of the parts or equivalent)
Hold adequate OVHC or 485-specific insurance
Meet health and character requirements
